Calamina
Source
Natural smithsonite, secondary mineral produced through efflorescence
of zinc ore, mainly containing zinc carbonate.
Characteristics
Appearing as irregular masses, varying in size. Surface white or grey-white
with light red, uneven, with small pores. Brittle in texture. Fracture
surface uneven and bibulous. Sweet in taste, mild in nature, and attributive
to stomach channel.
Indication
1. Remove nebula to improve visual acuity, reduce lacrimation: For conjunctivitis,
blepharitis, photophobia, lacrimation, nebula and pterygium,
usually used together with Rhizoma Coptidis and Concha Margaritifera Usta.
2. Deprive dampness and alleviate itching: External use for eczema, purulent
skin lesion and skin ulcer.
Pharmacological
Action
It is a mild astringent and antiseptic, and used for skin diseases.
Administration
External use: Appropriate amount.
