The obtheca of Tenodera sinensis Saussure, family Mantidae. Prepared by
steaming and drying.
Characteristics
Obtheca
cylindrical, semi-spherical, or rhombic, formed by layers of folded membranes,
2-5 cm long and 1-3 cm broad. Surfacc yellowish brown to grey-brown, with
a distinct or indistinct protruding belt; basal side flat or depressed.
Loose and tough in texture. Sweet and salty in taste, mild in nature,
and attributive to liver and kidney channels.
Indication
Invigorate the kidney, supplement yang, preserve essence and reduce the
frequency of urination: For weakness of kidney-energy manifested as frequent
micturition, enuresis, noctumal emission and leucorrhagia, especially
for infantile enuresis; also for impotence and premature ejaculation attributive
to deficiency of kidney-yang.
Administration Decoction: 3-10g.
