Galla Chinensis
Source
The gall formed by Melaphis chinensis (Bell) Baker parasitized on the
leaves of Rhus chinensis Mill. Prepared by cooking and drying.
Charactristics
Gall oblong or fusiform with smooth surface or rhombic with irregular
horny
branches, 2.5-9.0 cm long, 1.5-4.0 cm in diameter. Surface grey-brown,
pubescent, comeous, hard and brittle. Fracture surface showing waxily
lustrous, wall 0.2-0.3 cm thick, inner wall smooth with black died aphids
and grey powdery excretions in the sac. With a characteristic odour. Sour
and astringent in taste, mild in nature, and attributive to lung, large
intestine and kidney channels.
Indication
1. Lower the fire, dissolve phlegm and astringe the lung: For chronic
cough and cough due to phlegm-heat.
2. Astringe the intestine and relieve diarrhea: For chronic diarrhea and
dysentery.
3.
Relieve nocturnal emission and arrest perspiration: For nocturnal emission,
night sweat and spontaneous perspiration attributive to astheniasyndrome.
4. Stop bleeding: For hemafecia, hemoptysis and traumatic bleeding. In
addition, used with other drugs together for prolapse of rectum and hysteroptosis.
Pharmacological
Action
1. Astringent, antidiarrheal, haemostatic and antibacteriaL
2. Acting as a detoxicating agent by combining with various ions of heavy
metals, alkaloids or glycosides to form insoluble compounds.
Administration
Decoction: 1.5-4.5g. Powder: 0.5-1.5g.
