The fleshy stem of Cynomorium songaricum Rupr., family Cynomoriaceae.
Stem slightly curved and flat-terete, 5-15 cm long, 1.5-5.0 cm in diameter.
Surface brown, coarse, or with triangular scale leaves remained
and prominent longitudinal grooves. Prepared by crosscutting, section
showing triangular vascular bundles. Sweet in taste, warm in nature, and
attributive to liver, kidney and large intestine channels.
1. Invigorate the kidney and supplement essence: For deficiency of kidney-yang
and insufficiency of essence and blood manifested as impotence, emission,
flaccidity or paralysis of extremities, cold pain of the loin and knees.
2. Moisturize the intestine and relax the bowels: For constipation
and dryness of the intestine in the aged and the diseased with blood deficiency
and fluid consumption. This herb has the same action as the Herba Cistanchis
but the former is better for invigorating kidney-yang while the latter
