Herba Ecliptae
Source
Herb of Eclipta prostrata L., family compositae.
Characteristics
Stem terete, 20-40 cm long, 2-5 mm in diameter, covered by white soft
hairs,
dark-green when dried. leaves opposite, nearly sessile, lanceolate. Capitulum
2-6 mm in diameter. Achene flat-elliptical, densely grouped on persistent
involucre in one layer, with no coronule. Prepared as segments. Sweet
and sour in taste, slightly cold in nature and attributive to kidney and
liver channels.
Indication
1. Nourish the liver and kidney: For deficiency of liver-yin and kidney-yin
manifested as dizziness, tinnitus, alopecia, looseness of teeth and poliosis,
usually used together with Fructus Ligustri Lucidi (Erzhi Pill).
2. Cool the blood to stop bleeding: For blood-heat syndrome manifested
as hemoptysis, hematemesis, hematuria, metrorrhagia, hemafecia or dysentery
with bloody stools. Recently, used for acute hemorrhagic necrotizing enteritis,
also for coronary heart disease; external use for rice-field dermatitis,
allergic dermatitis and eczema.
Pharmacological
Action
1. Promoting lymphocyte-blastogenesis.
2. Anticoagulative and promoting fibrinolysis.
Administration
Decoction: 15-30g.
External use: Appropriate amount.
