Bulbus Lilii
Source
The
scale leaf of the bulb of Lilium lancifolium Thunb. or several species
of the same genus, family Liliaceae.
Characteristics
Scale leaf nearly elliptical, somewhat involuted, 2-5 cm long. Surface
whitish, sharp at the tip and broad at the base; margin thin and slightly
undulate, with 5-9 longitudinal veins. Hard and brittle in texture. Slightly
bitter in taste, mild in nature, and attributive to heart and lung
Indication
1. Moisturize the lung and relieve cough: For lung-dryness with cough
and hemoptysis.
2.
Clear away heart-fire and tranquilize the mind: For the convalescence
of febrile diseases or yin-deficiency with heat manifested as irritability,
insomnia, dreaminess, palpitation and absent-mindedness.
Pharmacological
Action
1. Its decoction can relieve the cough induced by ammonia in mice.
2. Relieving asthma induced by histamin in toads.
Administration
Decoction: 10-30g.
