The rhizome of Curculigo orchioides Gaertn., family Amaryllidaceae.
Rhizome small, terete, 3-10 cm long, 0.4-0.8 cm in diameter. Surface dark-brown
and coarse; nodes dense, but gradually sparse downwards, sometimes with
remnants of fibrous roots. Acrid in taste, warm in nature, slightly toxic
and attnbutive to kidney, spleen and liver channels.
1 Invigorate the kidney and strengthen yang: For deficiency of kidney-yang
manifested as impotence, emission, enuresis and frequent micturition.
2. Warm and strengthen spleen-yang: For deficiency of spleen-yang or of
spleen- and kidney-yang manifested as cold pain of epigastrium and abdomen,
poor appetite and diarrhea.
3. Expel cold and dampness, strengthen the tendons and bones: For yang-deficiency
with cold pain of the loin and knees, and weakness of the extremities,
or arthralgia and muscular spasm of cold-dampness type.
Enhancing the reactivity of rat's pituitary to luteinizing hormone releasing
factor and that of ovary to luteinizing hormone, thus promoting the luteinizing
action of the hypothalamuspituitary-ovary system.
