The tuber of Pinellia pedatisecta Schott, family Araceae.
Characteristics
Axial tuber flat-spherical, surrounded by several lateral tubers, like
a tiger paw, 3-4 cm in diameter, with concave leaf base scar at the upper
part which is surrounded densely by spotted fibrous root scars. Cross
section white and farinaceous. Acrid and bitter in taste, slightly warm
in nature, slightly toxic, and attributive to spleen, stomach, lung and
liver channels.
Indication
Deprive dampness, eliminate sputum, relieve carbuncle, disperse the lumps,
expel wind and relieve spasm: For cough of dampness-phlegm type, dizziness
of wind-phlegm type, apoplexy, distortion of the face, infantile convulsion,
epilepsy, tetanus, etc. Recently used for cancer of cervix (internal and
external use), tumour of digestive tract and lung cancer.
Pharmacological
Action
Trigonelline is the anticarcinogenic component inhibiting sarcoma180 and
hepatic cancer in vitro.
Administration
Decoction:
3-9g; 30g for tumour.
Tablet (each containing 10g of crude herb): 2-3 tablets tid.
Ampoule (2 ml containing 10-20g of crude herb): 1 ampoule IM once daily
or bid; local injection or as plaster for cancer of cervix.
Suppository or stick: As cervical suppository once daily for cancer of
cervix.
