Seed of Torreya grandis Fort., family Taxaceae.
Characteristics
Seed
ovate to elliptical, 2.0-3.5 cm long and 1.3-2.0 cm in diameter. Surface
grey-yellow, longitudinally striated, with elliptical hilum at one end,
and acutate at the other end. Hard in texture. Sweet in taste, mild in
nature, and attributive to stomach and large intestine channels.
Indication
1. Kill parasite: For ascariasis and taeniasis.
2.
Laxative: For constipation due to dryness of intestine.
Pharmacological
Action
As an anthelmintic for tapeworm and hookworm, more effective than that
of tetrachloroethylene.
Administration
For parasitic infestation: 15-30g (fried) for chewing, or prepared as
pill or powder.
For constipation: Fresh sample prepared as powder.
