The membrane of the gizzard of Gallus gallus domesticus Brisson, family
Phasianidae.
Characteristics
The sample appearing as irregular saccate piece, 7 cm in size, 0.5 mm
in thickness; surface yellow-green or yellow-brown, wrinkled, with many
angular wrinkles. Light and brittle. Section cuticular and lustrous. Sweet
in taste, mild in nature, and attributive to stomach, spleen, small intestine
and urinary bladder channels.
Indication
1. Strengthen the stomach and improve digestion: Single use for dyspepsia
with vomiting or infantile vomiting after immoderate feeding; for indigestion
with spleen-deficiency, used together with Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae;
for infantile malnutrition involving the spleen, used together with Rhiwma
Atractylodis Macrocephalae and Rhizoma Dioscoreae.
2. Relieve noctumal emission: For emission and enuresis due to kidney-deficiency,
used together with Semen Nelumbinis and Semen Furyales.
3. Disperse blood stasis and eliminate stones: For hepatosplenomegaly,.
dyspepsia and amenia, used together with Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae and
Radix Paeoniae Rubra; for urinary and biliary billary stones, used together
with Herba Lysimachiae.
Pharmacological
Action
Increasing the secretion and lowering the pH of gastric juice. The amount
of gastric juice may be increased by 30-37% in 45 to 60 minutes after
intake of its powder.
Administration
Decoction: 3-9g.
Powder: 1-3g tid for dyspepsia.
