The resin of ancient pines buried in the earth for a long time.
Characteristics
The sample appearing as irregular pieces, multi-angular and granular,
varying in size. Surface yellowish, yellow-brown, red-brown or dark-brown,
and lustrous. Hard in texture. Fracture surface lustrous or as bright
as glass. Easily melted when burnt, with a smell of colophony or kerosene-gas,
but not melted when cooking with water. Sweet in taste, mild in nature,
and attributive to heart, liver and urinary bladder channels.
Indication
1. Tranquilize the mind: For palpitation and restlessness, insomnia and
dreaminess, and amnesia, used together with Semen Ziziphi Spinosae and
CaUlis Polygoni Multiflori; for acute infantile convulsion and epilepsy,
used together with Bombyx Batryticatus and Lumbricus; for mania, used
together with annabarzs and Lumbricus, etc.
2. Promote blood circulation to remove blood stasis: For amenia, menalgia,
epigastric pain, abdominal mass and trauma with blood-stasis syndrome.
3. Promote diuresis and relieve stranguria: For stranguria complicated
by hematuria, stranguria of heat type, urinary stone, and retention of
urine.
Pharmacological
Action
Sedative and diuretic.
Administration
Decoction:
l.5-3.0g; or prepared as pill or powder.
