The resin of Styrcix tonkinensis (Pierre) Craib ex Hart, or S. hypoglauca
Perk., family Styracaceae.
Irregular masses about 3-8 cm in size, or broken into small pieces. Surface
orange-yellow and fracture surface milky white, becoming reddish brown
after prolonged storage; with a waxy lustre. Fracture surface smooth and
even. Softens and melts on heating. Aromatic in odour. Sand-feeling when
chewed. Bitter and acrid in taste, mild in nature, and attributive to
heart and spleen channels.
1. Wake patient from unconsciousness and eliminate phlegm: For coma of
sthenic type, applicable to those of cold origin as well as heat origin,
especially those with accumulation of phlegm.
Promote the circulation of vital energy and blood: For chest and abdominal
pain due to stagnation of vital energy and blood. In addition, external
use for promoting the healing of skin ulcers.
Stimulating the mucosa of respiratory tract and increasing its secretion,
and clinically applicable to bronchitis.
Pill or powder: 0.3-1.0g.
External use: Appropriate amount.
