Herba Rorippae
Source
Herb of Rorippa indica (L) Hiern, family Cruciferae.
Characteristics
A herb, 10-40 cm high. More branching from the base of the steim leaves
alternate, petioled at those from the lower part, margin irregularly serrate,
base extended to the both sides of the petiole and pinnatilobate; leaves
from the upper part almost sessile, long-ovate. Raceme terminal, corolla
yellow with 4 valves. Silique linear, 2.5-3.0 cm long. Acrid in taste,
cool in nature, and attributive to lung and liver channels.
Indication
1. Eliminate phlegm and relieve cough: For productive cough with dyspnea
attributive to lung-heat type, used together with Herba Houttuyniae and
Radix Peucedani; for those of lung-cold type, used together with Pericarpium
Citri Reticulatae and Semen Sinapis Albae.
2. Clear away toxic material to relieve carbuncle: For skin infection
and pharyngitis.
3. Deprive dampness and relieve jaundice: For jaundice of dampness-heat
type.
Pharmacological
Action
1. Its component rorifone is an expectorant, and can also inhibit the
growth of pneumococcus and influenzae bacillus in vitro.
2. Its decoction inhibits the growth of Pseudomonas aeruguzosa, Bacillus
dysentericie and Staphylococcus aureus in vitro.
Administration
Decoction: 10-30g.
Extemal use: Appropriate amount.
