Leaf, twig and flower of Rhododendron mariae Hance, family Ericaceae.
Characteristics
Shrub, multi-branching. Twig densely covered by reddish brown strigoses.
Leaf coriaceous, elliptical, oblanceolate to obovate, about 5 cm long,
covered with brown strigoses, growing in cluster at the top of the branches.
Umbel terminal, corolla light purple and funnel-form. Sweet and sour in
taste, mild in nature, and attributive to lung channel.
Indication
Eliminate phlegm and relieve cough: For acute and chronic bronchitis.
Pharmacological
Action
1. Its decoction acts as an antitussive and expectorant in mice.
2. Inhibiting the growth of pneumococcus and 13-streptococcus m vitro.
Administration
Decoction:
15-30g. Tablet: 5 tablets tid.
