The root tuber of Stemona sessihfolia (Miq.) Miq. and S. japonica (Bi.)
Miq., family Stemonaceae.
solitary or clustered, long-fusiforni or slender; 5-24 cm long, 0.5-2.0
cm in diameter. Surface grey-yellow, longitudinally wrinkled into grooves.
Prepared as crosscutting pieces. Section corneous, with broad cortex,
rounded or compressed stele, and whitish pith. Sweet and bitter in taste,
slightly warm in nature, and attributive to lung channel.
1. Nourish the lung, eliminate phlegm and relieve cough: For short-term
or prolonged cough, whooping cough and cough due to pulmonary tuberculosis.
2. Kill louse and parasite: For head and body louse (20% ethyl alcohol
extract or 50% decoction for external use), oxyuriasis
(100% decoction 30 ml for enema), trichomonas vaginitis (10-20% decoction
for vaginal irrigation), trichomonas enteritis (both for oral use and
as enema). In addition, may be used topically for tinea, mosquito bite,
urticana and dermatitis.
1. Its decoction and infusion inhibit the growth of Vibrio cholerae, Bacillus
dysenteriae and dermatomyces in vitro.
2. Killing head louse and body louse.
