The whole plant of Sedum sarmentosum Bunge, family Crassulaceae.
Characteristics
A
succulent herb. Stems creeping. Leaves trifoliate, veticiliate and oblanceolate.
Cyme acrogenous, composed of small and yellowish flowers. Sweet and bland
in taste, cool in nature, and attributive to liver, gallbladder and small
intestine channels.
Indication
1. Deprive dampness and relieve jaundice: For infectious hepatitis by
protecting liver and lowering the level of transaminase.
2. Clear away heat and toxic. material: For carbunculosis, furunculosis,
erysipilas,
pharyngitis, tonsillitis, conjunctivitis, otitis media, mumps, and insect,
centipede and bee bites (external and oral use).
Pharmacological
Action
1. Its amino acids protect the liver of rats and mice from CCl4 damage.
2. Inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, oi and streptococcus
and Shigella flexneri in vitro.
Administration
Decoction: 10-30g.
Tablet (each containing 0.32g of its extract): 6 tablets tid.
Instant granule: 1 packet bid.
