of Phaseolus calcaratus Roxb. or P. angularis Wight, family Leguminosae.
Characteristics
P. calcaratus: Seed flat-cylindrical with a purplish red surface; hilum
white and slightly protruded, with a concave groove in the middle. P angukiris:
Seed rectangular-cylindrical with flat ends, dark red or brown; hilum
line white and not protruded. Both are sweet and sour in taste, mild in
nature, and attributive to spleen, heart and small intestine channels.
Indication
1. Promote diuresis to eliminate dampness: For edema, ascites, dysuria,
wet beriberi, diarrhea and jaundice.
2.
Detoxify and promote drainage of pus: For skin infection (both oral and
external use available).
Pharmacological
Action
20% decoction inhibitis the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Shigella
flexneri and Bacillus typhoid in vitro.
Administration
Decoction: 10-30g.
Extemal use: Appropriate amount.
