The
vine stem with leaves of Trachelospennum jasminoides (LindI.) Lem., family
Apocynaceae.
Characteristics
Vine stem oblong strips, 1-5 mm in diameter, multi-branched. Cork red-brown,
with spotted lenticels; nodes bearing adventitious roots. Leaves opposite,
elliptical, margin entire, slightly involuted, somewhat coriaceous. Bitter
in taste, slightly cold in nature, and attributive to heart, liver and
kidney channels.
Indication
1. Expel wind-dampness and dredge the channels: F or
rheumatism, muscular spasm and trauma.
2. Cool the blood to resolve carbuncle: For skin infection and pharyngitis.
Pharmacological
Action
1. An active component arction is a vasodilator and hypotensive.
2. Over dosage of arction may lead to convulsion and respiratory failure.
Administration
Decoction: 6-15g.
