Root cortex of Acanthopanax gracilistylus W.W. Smith. or stem cortex of
A giraldii Harms, family Araliaceae.
Characterristics
A.
gracilistylus: Root cortex reeled, sliced to pieces of 34 cm long and
0.4-1.4 cm in diameter; Outer surface grey-brown, with transverse and
long lenticels. A giraidji: stem cortex long-cylindrical, 0.7-1.2 cm in
diameter; surface red-brown, covered with numerous long bristles; nodes
with bud scars. Acrid and bitter in taste, warm in nature, and attributive
to liver and kidney channels.
Indication
1. Expel wind and dampness, invigorate the liver and kidney, strengthen
the bone and tendon: For arthralgia of wind-cold-dampness type, flaccidity
of extremities in chronic rheumatism with hypofunction of liver and kidney,
or under-development in children.
2.
Promote diuresis to eliminate dampness: For edema, ascites and wet beriberi.
Pharmacological
Action
1. Inhibiting the development of experimental arthritis and allergic inflammation
in animals.
2. Decreasing the capillary permeability.
3. Antipyretic and analgesic.
Administration
Decoction:10-15g.
