Flos Sophorae
Source
The flower bud of Sophora japonica L., family Leguminosae.
Characteristics
Bud
somewhat ovate, 4-8 mm long; calyx occupying two-thirds of the bud, calyx
tubes yellow-green, 5-lobed at the apex; corolla visible, about 2 mm,
yellow-white to brown-yellow. Bitter in taste, mild in nature, and attributive
to stomach, liver and large intestine channels.
Indication
1.
Cool the blood and stop bleeding: Generally used for hemorrhoids, hematemesis
and hemafecia, also for hemoptysis, metrorrhagia, etc.
2. Clear away liver-heat and lower blood pressure: Fpr hypertension.
Pharmacological
Action
1. Its component rutin decreases capillary permeability.
2. Lowering blood pressure transiently in anesthetized dog.
3. Inhibiting the growth of various dermatomyces.
Administration
Decoction: 9-12g, up to 30-60g.
