Herba Cephalanoploris
Source
The aerial parts of Cephalanoplos segetum (Bunge) Kitam., family compositae.
Characteristics
Herb, 25-50 cm height. Stem longitudinally grooved, with a few arachnoid
hairs. Leaves altemate, elliptical-lanceolate, 7-10 cm long, 1.0-2.5 cm
wide; margin dentoid lobed, unequally spiny, both surfaces covered by
arachnoid hairs. Capitulum terminal, involucred carnpanulate, corolla
tubular, light purple. Achene covered by pinnate pappL Sweet in taste,
cool in nature, and attributive to liver and spleen channels.
Indication
1. Cool the blood and stop bleeding: Generally for hematufia, metrorrhagia,
also for hematemesis, hemoptysis, hemafecia, etc., especially for bleeding
due to blood-heat.
2. Promote diuresis: For jaundice of dampness-heat type, edema and dysuria,
recently used for acute and chronic infectious hepatitis.
3.
Clear away heat and toxic material: For skin infection and acute eczema.
Pharmacological
Action
1. Its decoction exerts a hypertensive effect, which may be synergetic
by cocaine or ephedrine and antagonized by ergotoxine.
2.Vasoconstrictive and hemostatic.
3. Its decoction inhibits the growth of Staphylococcus aureus.
Administration
Decoction: 10-15g; 20-60g of fresh herb.
