Herba Lycopi


The branch and leaf of Lycopus lucidus Turcz. var. hirtus Regel, family Labiatae.

Herb, 0.5-1.5 cm in height. Stem square-terete, rarely branching, nodes obvious and purple; fractured surface yellow-white and hollow. Leaves opposite, petioles short, blades lanceolate to oblong, 5-10 cm long, margin serrate, dorsal sides with numerous glandular spots. Branch and leaf covered with hairs. Several persistent calyxes appearing in verticillastrate arrangement at the axil. Bitter and acrid in taste, slightly warm in nature, and attributive to liver and urinary bladder channels.

1. Promote blood circulation to remove blood stasis: For blood stasis syndrome with dysmenorrhea, amenia, postpartum abdominal pain, skin infection or trauma.
2. Promote diuresis and relieve edema: For edema and stranguria of blood stasis type.

Pharmacological Action
Anti-inflammatory and increasing the functions of adrenal cortex.

Administration Decoction: 6-12g.
