Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae Viride


The immature fruit or its pericarp of Citrus reticutata Blanco, family Rutaceae.

Fruit nearly globular, 0.5-2.0 cm in diameter; surface greygreen or dark-green, coarse, with numerous oil glands; with style scars at the tip, and fruit stalk scar at the base. Pericarp irregular in size, outer surface grey-green or dark-green; inner surface (mesocarp) green-white, with reticular vascular bundles. Aromatic in odour. Bitter and acrid in taste, warm in nature, and attributive to liver, gallbladder and stomach channels.

1. Activate vital energy circulation, disperse the stagnated liver energy and alleviate pain: For stagnation of liver energy with hypochondriac pain, lump and pain of the breast, and swelling and pain of testis.
2. Promote digestion and relieve dyspepsia: For distension and pain of the epigastrium due to digestion and gas retention, mass and pain of the hypochondrium and upper abdomen due to stagnation of blood and vital energy. Recently, used for hepatic and billiary diseases and fibrous hyperplasia of breast.

Pharmacological Action
1. Its component limonene is an expectorant and antiasthmatic.
2. Its decoction relaxes the smooth muscle of intestines, stomach, gallbladder and uterus.

Administration Decoction: 3-9g.
