The fruit of Amomum kravcmh Pirre ex Gagnep., family Zingiberaceae.
Characteristics
Fruit nearly spherical, about 1.5 cm in diameter, obtusely trigonous in
appearance, with numerous longitudinal vascular bundles; the tip and the
base sparsely covered by yellow downs. Pericarp thin, yellow-white, showmg
three cells when crushed, each cell containing numerous seeds. Aromatic
in odour. Acrid in taste, warm in nature, and attributive to spleen and
stomach channels.
Indication
1. Eliminate dampness from the middle jiao, promote vital energy circulation
and remove the stagnation of vital energy: For dampness-syndrome involving
spleen-yang or stagnation of spleen energy and stomach energy with feeling
of fullness in the chest and upper abdomen, loss of appetite; for the
initial stage of dampness-warm syndrome with feeling of oppression in
the chest, anorexia, white-greasy or turbid-greasy fur, usually used together
with Semen Cbicis, Talcum (Decoction of Three Seeds).
2. Warm the middle jiao and stop vomiting: For stomach-cold syndrome or
retention of cold-dampness with nausea and vomiting, and vomiting of milk
in infants.
Pharmacological
Action
1. Promoting the secretion of gastric juice and intestinal peristalsis,
and inhibiting the abnormal fermentation in intestines.
2. Inhibiting Bacillus dysenteriae.
Administration Decoction: 3-10g (decocted later).
