Radix Stellariae
Source
The root of Stellana dichotoma L. var. lanceolata Bunge, family Caryophyliaceae.
Characteristics
Root
cylindroid, or branching, 15-40 cm long, 1.0-2.5 cm in diameter, with
yellow-white surface, numerous tuberculate stem scar presenting at the
root stock and twisted longitudinal striae at the body; rootlet scar depressed.
Prepared as slices, section showing cracks, vascular bundles in radial
arrangement alternating with yellow and white. Sweet in taste, slightly
cold in nature, and attributive to liver and stomach
channels.
Indication
Lower asthenic fever and fever of infantile malnutrition: For the late
stage of febrile disease complicated by yin-deficiency with hectic fever
and night sweat, and for infantile malnutrition with fever, usually used
together with Cortex Lycii Radicis, Herba Artemisiae Annuae, etc.
Administration
Decoction: 3-9g.
