Source
Herb of Pteris multifida Poir. ex Lam., family Pteridaceae.
Characteristics
Herb, 25-60 cm tall. Rhizome with scales and fibrous roots. Leaves clustered,
grey-green, petiole slender, pinnately compound, pinnae at the lower part
2-3 forked, the pinnae and pinnules slender, with narrow wings at the
rachis. Sporothecium brown, growing in line attached to the margin of
the dorsal side. Slightly bitter in taste, cool in nature, and attributive
to large intestine and urinary bladder channels.
Indication
1. Clear away heat and toxic material: For diarrhea and dysentery of dampness-heat
type, stranguria of heat type.
2. Cool the blood and stop bleeding: For hematuria, hemafecia, epistaxis
and hemorrhoidal bleeding. Recently, also for bleeding in the biliary
tract.
Pharmacological
Action
Bacteriostatic effect on Bacillus dysenteriae.
Administration
Decoction: 10-15g.
