The immative inflorescence of Buddleja officinalis Maxim., family Loganiaceae.
Characteristics
Inflorescence irregularly conical, composed of numerous buds; 1.5-3.0
cm
long, grey-yellow, densely pubescent. Buds short-clavate, slightly enlarged
at the upper end, soft in texture. Aromatic in odour. Sweet in taste,
slightly cold in nature, and attributive to liver channel.
Indication
Clear away liver-fire and nourish the liver, remove nebula to improve
the visual acuity: For liver-heat syndrome with redness, swelling and
pain of the eye, photophobia and lacrirnation, used together with Spica
Prunellae, Herba Equiseti Hiemalis, etc.; for patient
with hypofunction of liver, used together with Radix Paeoniae Alba, Fructus
Ligustrt Lycidi, Concha Margaritifera Usta, etc.; for blurring of vision
due to hyfunction of liver, used together with Fructus Lycll, Semen Cuscutae,
etc.; for nebula, used together with Concha Margaritifera Usta, Periostracum
Cicadae, etc:
Pharmacological
Action
One of its active components, acacetin, has similar effect as that of
vitamin P.
Administration
Decoction: 3-9g.
