Bulb of Allium fistulosum L., family Liliaceae.
Characteristics
Bulb shortly terete, base slightly enlarged and wrapped in layers of numerous
scale leaves, white or reddish. Acrid in taste, warm in nature, and attributive
to lung and stomach channels.
Indication
1. Induce sweating to expel exogenous evils from the body surface: For
common cold of wind-cold type, usually used together with Semen Sojae
Praeparatum.
2. Expel cold and activate yang: For false heat-syndrome in appearance
but real cold-syndrome in nature, used together with Radix Aconiti Praeparata,
Rhizoma Zingiberis; also for abdominal distension and pain due to stagnation
of vital energy and cold evil, and for dysuria due to hypofunction of
urinary bladder. Fried Aliji Fistulosi should be applied over the umbilicus
and urinary bladder.
Pharmacological
Action
1. Bacteriostatic.
2. Diaphoretic, diuretic and expectorant. Oral use of its volatile oil
can stimulate the respiratory and urinary tract and sweat glands and increase
their secretion.
Administrafion Decoction:3-10g.
